Pharmacotherapy
While medication is often not necessary to treat mental illness, it depends on the condition and the experience of the patient. However, you shouldn’t think of pharmacotherapy as innately opposed to non-medication-based therapies. In fact, studies show that using anti-anxiolytics and anti-depressants to support treatment drives improved outcomes for patients with anxiety and/or depression.
On the other hand, some mental illnesses absolutely require medication. Schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, in particular, do not respond to therapy. However, this does not mean that Alter Health Group’s treatment ends at medication. Both of these conditions as well as others are deeply stigmatized and misunderstood. People who develop schizophrenia often suffer from misconceptions surrounding the condition, such as the idea they’re inherently dangerous. This is why we pair medication with individual education, family education, and other holistic treatment programs.
